Word data and license

JP 2K teaches 2,000 Japanese words. Each word has a Japanese form, a kana reading, and an English meaning. We built that list from the sources below and publish its word fields in zentsu.app/japanese2k/icons.json.

Sources

The JLPT vocabulary lists by Jonathan Waller at tanos.co.uk, which are offered under the Creative Commons Attribution license.
The JMdict/EDICT dictionary files, the property of the Electronic Dictionary Research and Development Group (EDRDG). The English meanings derive from these files, and we use them in accordance with the EDRDG license.
open-anki-jlpt-decks, which compiled these lists and is released under the MIT License.
wordfreq by Robyn Speer, version 3.1.1, which sets the order of the 2,000 words by how often each word appears. Its data is offered under CC BY-SA 4.0, and its Japanese list draws on Wikipedia, OpenSubtitles through OPUS, the OSCAR web corpus, Twitter, and Reddit. wordfreq also includes the SUBTLEX word lists by Marc Brysbaert and colleagues, which are freely available data.

License

The japanese, reading, and english fields in icons.json, and the same word data inside the JP 2K app, are offered under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 International license (CC BY-SA 4.0). You may copy, adapt, and share them, including commercially. Credit Tanos, the EDRDG, and wordfreq as listed above, link to this license, and release any adapted version of the data under the same license.

This license covers the word data only. The picture files under /japanese2k/svgs/ are Zentsu LLC artwork and are not part of it. The app itself is governed by the Zentsu LLC Terms of Use.

The data is provided as is and can contain mistakes. If you find a wrong reading or meaning, email [email protected] with the word and the fix.
