TIFF to JPG on Mac

Preview's Export dialog writes JPEG from a TIFF, and Finder's Convert Image does as well, so one file needs no extra app. TIFFs tend to come in bulk and large: scanner output, exports from image editors, whole folders of them at tens of megabytes each. Press queues the folder, applies one quality setting and one Max size to all of it, and writes each JPEG beside its TIFF.

  1. Drop the TIFF files, or their folder, onto Press.
  2. Under Image, choose JPEG, set Quality, and set a Max size in pixels if the scans are larger than they need to be.
  3. Click Convert. Each file is written as name (Press).jpg beside the source.

What you get

Container
A .jpg beside the .tiff.
Codec
JPEG through ImageIO.
Quality
TIFF is usually uncompressed or lossless, so this is the first lossy step. 85 percent is the default; scans of documents read best at 90 or above.
Metadata
TIFF tags are not copied. Orientation is applied to the pixels.
Does Press handle multi-page TIFFs?

Press converts the first page of a multi-page TIFF. Page selection is not in this release.

Can Press write TIFF too?

Yes, with Press Pro. TIFF output is lossless, so the quality slider is hidden for it.

Is TIFF to JPG free?

Yes, one file at a time.

Press converts video and images on your Mac. The download is free, and Press Pro is a one-time $14.99 unlock for batch conversion, size presets, and WebP.
