WebP to JPG on Mac

Finder's Convert Image writes JPEG, and so does Preview's Export, so a WebP that Preview opens can become a JPEG without another app. Press earns its place on volume and on control: one drop for a folder, a quality percentage instead of Finder's four size tiers, and a Max size in pixels for images headed to a form with an upload limit.

  1. Drop the WebP files onto Press.
  2. Under Image, choose JPEG, set Quality (85 percent by default), and type a Max size if you need one.
  3. Click Convert. Each file is written as name (Press).jpg beside the source.

What you get

Container
A .jpg beside the .webp.
Codec
JPEG through ImageIO at the quality you set.
Quality
Two lossy formats in a row: WebP already discarded detail and JPEG discards more. Keep the slider at 85 or higher unless size matters more than the picture.
Metadata
Not copied. Orientation is baked into the pixels.
What happens to transparency?

JPEG has no alpha channel, so transparent areas in the WebP are flattened. If you need transparency, choose PNG instead.

Can I convert a whole folder?

Yes, with Press Pro. Drop the folder and Press queues every image inside it.

Is this free?

One file at a time, yes.

Press converts video and images on your Mac. The download is free, and Press Pro is a one-time $14.99 unlock for batch conversion, size presets, and WebP.
