Privacy policy

This privacy policy applies to JP 2K (the "Application"), an iPhone app for learning Japanese vocabulary published by Zentsu LLC. Zentsu LLC is referred to below as "we," "us," or the "Service Provider." The service is provided "AS IS".

The short version: JP 2K keeps your study progress and settings on your iPhone. It works without an account, and it contains no analytics, advertising, or tracking code. Its only network activity is downloading a public list of word pictures, and picture files, from zentsu.app. Those requests carry none of your data.

What information does the Application store?

The Application stores the words you have played, the words you answered correctly in quizzes, your Library order, and your settings, such as script display, speech speed, and voice. This information is saved in the Application's local storage on your iPhone. It is not sent to us or to anyone else, and we have no way to see it. Registration with Zentsu is not required.

What does the Application download?

When you open the Application, and when you pull down on the Library to refresh it, the Application requests a public icon map from zentsu.app/japanese2k/icons.json. If that map points to picture files, the Application downloads those files from zentsu.app. The Application stores the map and pictures on your iPhone so that corrected pictures appear without an app update.

These requests contain no progress, settings, account, device identifier, or advertising identifier. Like any web request, they reach our hosting provider with standard request information: your IP address and a User-Agent string that names the Application and its bundle identifier. Our hosting provider processes that information to deliver and secure zentsu.app. We do not use it to identify you or to build a profile of your use.

How does spoken audio work?

The Application speaks words with the text-to-speech voices built into iOS. Speech is generated on your iPhone. The Application does not use the microphone, record audio, or send the words you play anywhere.

Does the Application collect precise real time location information of the device?

The Application does not collect precise information about the location of your device.

Do third parties see and/or have access to information obtained by the Application?

The Application includes no third-party SDKs and sends us no study records, so we have none to share. If you buy the optional one-time unlock, Apple processes the purchase through the App Store under its own terms and privacy policy. We receive no payment-card details from that transaction.

What are my opt-out rights and how do I delete my data?

You can delete everything the Application stores by deleting the Application through the standard uninstall process on your iPhone. Copies of Application data that are part of an iPhone backup follow the settings you chose for iCloud Backup or computer backups. Because we hold no data from the Application, there is nothing for us to delete on our side.

Children

The Application is not used to knowingly solicit data from or market to children under the age of 13.

The Service Provider does not knowingly collect personally identifiable information from children. The Service Provider encourages all children to never submit any personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services. The Service Provider encourages parents and legal guardians to monitor their children's Internet usage and to help enforce this Policy by instructing their children never to provide personally identifiable information through the Application and/or Services without their permission. If you have reason to believe that a child has provided personally identifiable information to the Service Provider through the Application and/or Services, please contact the Service Provider at [email protected] so that they will be able to take the necessary actions. You must also be at least 16 years of age to consent to the processing of your personally identifiable information in your country (in some countries we may allow your parent or guardian to do so on your behalf).

Security

The Application does not transmit your study records to us, which limits exposure through systems we operate. Information on your iPhone is protected by the security controls on that device. Downloads from zentsu.app use HTTPS. No storage system can be guaranteed completely secure.

Terms of use

Your use of the Application is also governed by the Zentsu LLC Terms of Use. The word data in the Application is covered by the JP 2K word data license.

Changes

This Privacy Policy may be updated from time to time for any reason. We will notify you of any changes by updating this page with the new Privacy Policy and its effective date. You are advised to consult this Privacy Policy regularly for any changes, as continued use is deemed approval of all changes.

By using the Application, you are consenting to the processing of your information as set forth in this Privacy Policy now and as amended by us.
